Monday: Joshua 5:13-6:27
In this passage, Joshua saw a man standing with a sword , so he went to him and asked him questions. The angel told Joshua to take off his sandals because the ground he was standing on was holy. The gates of Jericho were shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. The Lord said to Joshua that the town of Jericho was his and then told him that him and his strong men should march around the town once a day for six days and seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram's horns. So Joshua did as he was told.
Tuesday: Joshua 7:1-26
In this passage, Israel disobeyed the instructions about the things that are set apart for the Lord. A man stole things that were dedicated to the Lord, so Joshua sent some of his men to spy on the town of Ai and when they returned, that there was no need for them all to go to attack Ai, because it was a small town. But the men were wrong and the people in the town of Ai chased the 3,000 men away and killed all 3,000... Joshua and the elders tore their clothes out of rage and bowed down to the Ark of the Lord until evening. Then Joshua pleaded with the Lord and asked him why he had even brought them in the first place. And the Lord told Joshua to get up and that Israel has now been set apart for destruction and that he would not remain with him if he did not get rid of the things that were set apart for destruction. So Joshua did as he was told and the Israelites stoned Achan, the man that stole from the Ark of the Lord, and his family and burned their bodies, so the Lord was no longer angry.
Wednesday: Joshua 10: 1-15
In this passage, the king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had destroyed Ai and killed the towns king! So the king of Jerusalem sent messenger to several other kings basically saying, "come and help me destroy Joshua!"People quickly sent messages to Joshua telling him of the bad news they had found out. The Lord told Joshua to not be afraid of them, because he had already given him victory over them. The did as he told Joshua and Joshua and his army were able to slaughter great numbers of them. Joshua prayed that the sun be still over Gibeon and the moon over the valley of Aijalon and as he prayed his prayer came true.
Thursday: Joshua 23: 1-16
In this passage, the Lord had given the people of Israel some rest from all of their enemies and Joshua was VERY old now called to gather all of the elders and leader, etc. and he told them about how he was really old and basically told them his goodbyes and told them that he gave them the land, just as the Lord had given it unto him.Joshua gave them instructions and told them to obey them all for their own sake! Joshua instructed all of them and told them that he would soon die. Joshua gave them all the commands the Lord had given to him. We need to obey ALL of Joshua's commands. Not one is more important than the other.
Friday: Joshua 24:1-30
In this passage, Joshua summoned all the tribes of Israel and they all came in obedience. Joshua told them "This is what the Lord God says: Long ago your ancestors lived beyond the Euphrates River and they worshiped other gods. But i took Abraham from them and and lead him to Canaan... etc" God told them all he had done with their ancestors and what he was going to do with them! The way we can get hope from history is by thinking of better ways we can incorporate God in things. We can look back and see the wrong and we can find the hope and the strength to do something about it! :)
